The Best Time to Visit Marco Island

Month-by-month notes from locals — when the weather peaks, when shelling is best, and when you can actually find a quiet beach.

Peak season — December through April

This is the postcard window: dry, warm, calm, with the lowest humidity and the most reliable sunshine. It's also the busiest and priciest. Book early, and prefer weekdays for restaurants and beach parking.

Shoulder — May & November

Still gorgeous, noticeably cheaper, fewer crowds. May is hot and starting to get humid; November is mild and quiet, our personal favorite for boat tours.

Summer — June through September

Hot, humid, and afternoon thunderstorms most days — but mornings are stunning, the water is bath-warm, and you'll have most of the beach to yourself. Lightning typically clears by dinner.

Hurricane awareness

August through October is peak hurricane season. Most years pass with nothing more than rainy afternoons, but always check the forecast and consider travel insurance.

What's best when

  • Shelling: December–April, especially after a cold front.
  • Dolphins: year-round, best in calm morning conditions.
  • Fishing: snook spring & fall; tarpon late spring; redfish year-round.
  • Sunsets: winter sunsets are the most reliable; summer sunsets are the most dramatic.
